Practical questions
Buyer questions
Where do I bid?
On HiBid. This site introduces each auction and links to its HiBid catalog, where you register, bid and receive your invoice. We do not take bids or payments on this site.
First HiBid auction guideIs there a buyer premium?
Buyer premium, taxes and payment methods are set for each event. They appear in that auction’s terms on its overview page here and in the HiBid catalog. Please read them before bidding.
Buyer premium, definedHow should I budget?
Start from the total you are willing to pay, then allow for buyer premium, applicable tax and pickup or shipping costs before setting a maximum bid.
Budgeting for the full costCan I ask about a lot before bidding?
Yes. Use the contact page and include the auction name and lot number. Ask early; answers describe what can be observed and are not a guarantee.
Ask about a lotWhat does a condition note actually promise?
Condition language describes what was observed. It is not a warranty, and the absence of a note does not mean an object is perfect.
Reading condition and provenanceHow do I receive what I win?
Pickup and shipping options are set per event and described in the auction’s fulfillment details. Items are released once payment has cleared. Confirm arrangements before you bid.
Seller questions
Does an inquiry mean you will accept my items?
No. An inquiry starts a conversation. Nothing is accepted until terms are agreed in writing.
Will you tell me what something is worth?
An inquiry is not a valuation, and we do not quote sale prices or promise results.
Do I need photographs?
No. They help, but a description is enough to begin. Photographs do not establish authenticity, grade or metal content.
Photographing objectsWhat share of the sale do consignors receive?
Consignors receive 85–100% of the hammer price, as set in the written agreement, and no share of the buyer premium.
Consignment economicsI have inherited a collection. Where do I start?
Keep it together, do not clean anything, and make a simple working inventory before deciding what to keep or sell.
Inherited collectionsHow does settlement work?
Settlement follows official auction results and cleared buyer payment, according to the terms in your written agreement. No timeline is published here.
